is it possible to set a time to the status line other than the default time
of midnight?

and if not, why not???

Sure, Just add the time after the date EG: 12/12/05 14:00

Dear Rod,
this is what i thought; but the project info form just drops this
information and the progress line itself does not move from the midnight spot

my need is to be able to show the actual time of the progress update not
just the date, ideally using the progress line, as we may update more than
once per day for use by other contributors to our project

The Status Date line sticks to the closest greater timescale graduation. So,
if your timescale is in days, it'll stick on midnight. But if you blow up
the scale (from 15mn to 15mn for example) you'll have what you want.
