Projects 2003 to Project 2007

We are converting our 2003 projects to 2007. Once converted, we are
publishing the same to Office project Server 2007. Any known issues that we
should be aware of?

Hi Kannan,

The basic scheduling functionality of Project 2003 and 2007 is the same,
just make sure you have tested your processes in PS2007 thoroughly.

Thanks for the reply ben. Am sorry, i do not understand when you say "make
sure you have tested your processes in PS2007 thoroughly". Can you please
help me with more details here?

I suppose he means to test all your functional process in Ms Project Server
2007 before going live.
Just test all your process (publishing, allocating resource, approving,
enter timesheeting, administrative) before moving forward.

I hope this explain and I understood Ben correctly. We are planning a
migration also the next coming months.

Make sure that the calendars used in the projects are identical to the ones
in Project Server 2007. If they calendars do not match, there is a strong
possibility that the dates in the projects will shift when you import them
into Project Server 2007. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply Dale. Regarding the Calendars, if i were to create a
project and then publish the same to the Project Server, i can make sure that
the calendars are the same. But in my case the projects are already created
using Project 2003, and i am trying to get these into project server 2007.
How can i make the surety that the calendars match? your inputs will be of
great help

Are you moving from Project Server 2003 to Project Server 2007, or only from
using Microsoft Project 2003 with local projects (saved as MPP files) to
Project Server 2007? Let us know.

Thanks for the reply Dale. We are doing the second option "using Microsoft
Project 2003 with local projects (saved as MPP files) to Project Server
2007". Your thought please

There is no simple way to compare the calendars used in every project to
your organization's enterprise calendars. The only way to do this would be
to do the following:

1. Open a project in Microsoft Project 2003 (not 2007).
2. Click View - Reports.
3. Double-click the Overview icon.
4. Double-click the Working Days report.
5. Print the report on paper.

The Working Days report will show all of the nonworking time periods on the
Standard calendar for the project. Repeat the preceding steps for EVERY
project you want to import into Project Server 2007. Then compare the paper
printouts with the enterprise Standard calendar you have set up in Project
Server 2007. In that regard, I am assuming you have added your company's
holidays to the enterprise Standard calendar. Hope this helps.
