protect columns

Hello!
Is it possible to protect columns in Project 98 (i.e. the
task column)? I did not find hints in the object catalogue.

Hi Anne,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

No, not possible, sorry :-( However, you could hide the Name column after
copying the data to a Text column which you could then show in the name
column's space. If anyone changes it, it only changes the Text column and
not the original name.

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at
this web address: http://www.mvps.org/project/
Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on:)

Thanks Mike!

My intension to protect the task column was that users
should choose a created menu for deletion and insertion of
tasks. The point is that every task and their costs are
listed additionally in an Excel table. If I could force
the user to use only the menu updating of the Excel table
would be easier, because in this case comparing if the
dates in Excel and Project are the same is not necessary
when closing the Project file. So closing the file would
be much faster.
It would be great if you could imagine a good anlternative
for my problem.
