protect document question

I'm trying to protect a document that I previously had protected. I saved as a different version and tried to save again and MS word is not letting me select proect document (it's greyed out). Can anyone help me?

1. In which version of Word was the document created?
2. In which version of Word are you now trying to work with it?
3. Was the form created using the Forms toolbar, or the Controls Toolbox?
4. What's the macro security setting (Tools/Macros/Security)?
