PS 2003: Custom Task Calendars impacting publishing process

Has anyone ever seen problems with schedules that have widespread use of
custom task calendars? My environment here has the enterprise calendar set
for a 5 day work week; 8 hr a day. Works fine for 90 percent of my project
world. However, I have a very small portion of projects that are 'time
boxed' at a certain period of time in which any/all project team members
might work literally 24/7 for a set of time. What I've seen is this
particular PM has created a custom task calendar for these projects and
assigned it to all tasks. We have been recently having issues with our view
notify service hanging and the person reporting the problem regularly is the
owner of these schedules. Is there any history of this happening? Some
background:
View Notify Service on same server as Project Server
Project Server 2003/SQL 2000
Project Managers, do Collaborate/Publish All

Any help much appreciated!

First thing to do is to specify what service pack your environment is on.
Also verify that all the PM's Project Professional client machines are on
the same service pack as the servers.

I will confirm but I'm fairly confident that both user and server are SP3.
We did a mass update a while back, but you know, stranger things have
happened. Assuming they are both matching and current...other suggestions?
