Publisher 2000 versus the newest version?

I've been using Publisher 2000 and am thinking of buying the newest version
if it's any better. So I would like to know:......
What is the most up to date version? What are the main differences? Can I
install it over the top of Publisher 2000 as an update? Or do I have to buy
the new full programme? What does it cost?
My main problem is that Publisher 2000 saves my files as HUGE files if I
have a few photos included. Has this design flaw been solved?
Many thanks Chris

What's new in Publisher 2002:

comparison with Publisher 2000)
There's a chat transcript of the "What's New in Publisher 2003" chat here:

The Publisher 2003 Reviewer's Guide is here:

And the Publisher 2003 FAQ (including a brief list of some new features) is

Judging by your domain, you are in the UK. If you are not in the UK, please
post back for US-specific information
You are eligible for the Upgrade Edition, which costs £84.99. This can be
installed on top of Publisher 2000

This has been fixed, yes. It was partially fixed in Publisher 2002, and has
been improved for 2003

Publisher 2000 is not what you would call a good product in any way. It was
most definitely not up to the standard of Publisher 97.

Publisher 2002 is now obsolete as Publisher 2003 is due out this month.

Publisher 2003 is a substantially better version than Publisher 2000 in
every way.

Thanks to you both.
One last question: When Publisher 2003 becomes available in the UK, will I
be able to purchase it on its own (i.e. separate from the Office suite)?
Cheers Chris

Publisher is always available separately from the Office suite.
