publisher 97

I have used publisher 97 on Windows 98 and I like the way
it works. However I have installed it on my laptop which
has Windows XP - the layout is totally different. I want
to view the clip art as per Windows 98 - is this possible?

I am not surprised you like Publisher 97 and the way it works, as it is one
of the three best versions of Publisher.

However, you will have the ClipArt Gallery 5.0 on XP with Publisher 97.

No, it is not possible, well yes it is, but the trauma is not worth the
pain.

The Merge is magic and it has some defaults back in.

The CMYK does not bother me as I have all the tools for that and will
continue using them for consistency.

Mark they don't work together at all, but they are complementary programs to each other in every way.
If you do a lot of DTP work like myself, owning both Publisher and PagePlus will save you buying Quark or InDesign.

For example the Merge in Publisher 2003 is substantially superior to any other merge on the market (other than straight database programs), let alone just DTP programs. Some of the tools in Publisher are superior in some areas to PagePlus, however PagePlus has many tools superior to Publisher. PagePlus has excellent drawing tools and is much better on longer documents like books and has great page numbering options.
I use both extensively and would not like to be without either program.
I am so used to both programs, I now automatically go to the program I want without having to consciously decide.

They don't work *together*. Each has their own advantages. I find that Serif
PagePlus has substantially more drawing abilities than Publisher. I find
that Publisher has superior Office connectivity with Microsoft Word and
Microsoft Outlook, as well as it's superior merge abilities. I use actual
drawing programs such as PhotoShop 7, CorelDraw! 11 and PhotoDraw 2000v2, so
I never use the drawing tools in either program really. I compliment each
program by using a drawing program along side of it.

OK, still not 100% clear here...

Are we talking that you can take files from publisher and bring them into Serif and export them in a way that makes it easier for outside printers to work with the files?

I use Photoshop extensivly for design work and then use those resulting picture files in Publisher. I do EXTENSIVE DTP in Publisher, but the CYMK color issues are my biggest problems. Does Serif do something to the Publisher file that makes it more CMYK friendly?

Do you have some web address for PagePlus9? I cant find it anywhere... THANKS!

Publisher 2003 fully supports CMYK composite output now. Previous versions
have not.

Serif PP8 w/PDF and Serif PP9 include the ability to Export to PDF built in.

Here is the direct link to PagePlus 9.0 with built in CMYK and PDF
http://www.serif.com/pageplus/pageplus9/index.asp

No, they do not open each others files.
Yes, both programs make it easy to send file to the printer in CMYK. With
Publisher 2003 you still need the full version of Adobe Acrobat. With Serif
PagePlus 9.0 it has CMYK and PDF creation all built in with all the correct
options.

PagePlus 9 is a program far more suitable to Publisher for some types of
work, as Publisher 2003 is better to PagePlus 9.0 in some areas. One thing
with PagePlus 9.0 it has proper linking of pictures which is a big plus in a
document with a large number of pictures, or when pictures need changing.

Personally, I would not like to be without either program.
Serif also make PhotoPlus 9.0 which is a fraction of the price of PhotoShop
with most of the features including layers etc. and full PSD file support.
DrawPlus is a vector drawing program I *LOVE*.
