Publisher Data Source Size

I need to merge a data source with 1400 fields and 200 records. I would like
to use excel as the data source but it is too big to have the fields as
columns and the records as rows. Can I transpose the data and then configure
Publisher to read the columns as records ? If not can someone suggest another
data source file type ?

What about creating an Access (database) table and using it as the data
source?That said, I have to wonder about a record with 1400 fields. It seems
to me that there is something wrong with that kind of structure. If you could
tell us more about the project, perhaps someone will come up with another
approach.

Sorry, I just checked, and the maximum number of fields per table is 255. No
further insight at this point.
