Publisher loaded on two computers?

Old hard drive replaced failing hard drive at office and
employee received new computer. Software from CD's were
installed on new computer. Old hard drive has software
that was installed on new computer. Therefore duplicate
copies are running of Publisher. I do not believe this is
intentional but more due to lack of organization. I helped
with installation of programs and was asking where CDs
were, etc. and it was a matter of seaching high and low.

Can organization be in big trouble because of this? Is
there way to detect which CD was loaded on what computer
and get organized? Please advise because everyone there
wants to be legal.

Concerned and anonymous!

Uninstall Publisher from one of the machines.

Seems the honorable way a group (company, family, club, etc) could
make use of a single copy of most any software would be to have a
single computer, a server and have terminals off of it. One copy of
say Publisher, a bunch of terminals.

But you'd need some TS software then...

Thanks Ed for your response. Hope you had a wonderful
time in Germany!

Guess everything would be legal if the local computer
business would deliver the cd's for new computer.
Business person said he would burn an Office cd and a
Windows XP Pro cd for the new computer. It has been a
little over a week and person is supposedly tied up and
has not come. Meanwhile they have to use old fax machine
because without Windows XP cd, the fax component cannot
be installed on new computer. Is this unusual? I would
have thought that when computer is delivered, the cds
would be handed over.

What is your opinion?

What is TS software? And, is it spendy?

Terminal Server software. Allows multiple terminals to connect to one
server and use it as if it was a local machine. The way of overcoming
multiple license issues that you mentioned.
It is quite spendy.

I thought that sounded fishy too. I have no way of
knowing how industry works. How do small local computer
businesses(not a chain store) who put together computers,
install software, etc. acquire the software for computer?
Do they purchase some sort of license/agreement from
Microsoft to burn OEM disks? Do they buy volumes of
software from Microsoft? Please explain.

It may be that your organisation has a Select license, in which case you do
not really need an extra set of CDs and are licensed.
Check with your IT manager as to your licensing arrangements with Microsoft.

We are talking about organization with only two full-time
employees and three part-time employees. There is no IT
manager. I know more about the computers than the
employees which is why I volunteer. The new computer is
only one with Windows XP pro on it and there are no CD's
for XP pro. It would help to have Windows XP pro CD with
Service Pack 1 so that the fax Window component could be
installed-- they have to use the old fax machine. Person
is suppose to deliver the CD.

Your new computer will have come with a recovery disk. Windows will be on that disk.
If it did not, confront your vendor and insist they give you a recovery disk.

Thank you all. I am trying to get quotes from Dell for
the charity open license program with Microsoft. I think
that is the way they should go. With the amount of money,
they could upgrade/replace software on computers and have
Office too. There would be no question of legality.

I respect and admire Mr. Bill Gates. He is not a Kennedy
but worked hard and made his own money.

In many cases MS now allow you to have your software installed on 3 (THREE)
computers at home.
