Publisher Open File Location Problem

When one of my users starts Publisher 2003 and clicks Open, the first
screen that she sees is C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11.
She has gone into Tools | Options and onto the General tab as set the
File Locations for both Publications and Pictures to the shared S:\
drive, but she continue to get the OFFICE11 folder. Other people
using the same PC do not show this behavior. The do see the S:\
drive.

Where is the per-user settings file for Publisher 2003? Is it:

C:\Documents and Settings\karen\Application
Data\Microsoft\Office\Publis11.pip

Or

C:\Documents and Settings\karen\Application
Data\Microsoft\Publisher\pubcmd.dat

Would deleting one or the other or both and allowing Publisher to
recreate them solve the problem?

Thank you Mary. That helps and has been done. The problem is that
we've change the default for Publisher to open on the S: drive but
Publisher isn't following the default settings. Having the S: drive on
My Places makes it faster to get where we want to until this is fixed.

Can you attempt to do a detect and repair of Publisher (Help > Detect and
Repair).

Also, what happens if you make sure your default folder is set properly
under the Tools > Options and then browse to a file on the S drive, then be
sure to save the file again to the S drive, does the "open" stick to the S
drive?

I tried the detect and repair for Publisher, but that didn't help. I
asked MS tech support and received this registry change that did fix
the problem:

Based on my experience and research, the default path for publication
files
and picture files are stored in registry:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Publisher\Doc_Path
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Publisher\Picture_pat
h
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Publisher\Default_Pat
h

I would suggest your change the file location in the registry to
resolve it:

1. Click Start - Run, type REGEDIT, and then click OK.

2. Locate and select the following keys:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Publisher

3. Double click Doc_Path on the right pane, type S:\ in the Value Data
text box, and then click OK.

4. Double click Default_Path on the right pane, type S:\ in the Value
Data text box, and then click OK.

If you want to change the picture's path, you can also change the path
in
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Publisher\Picture_pat
h.

The problem was that the Default_Path key pointed to an invalid
folder. Once it was set correctly, it started working correctly.
