Publishing Projects to Categories

I have setup categories by department and have created the
appropriate groups and assgined them permissions to the
categories. However, it appears that when you publish a
project you have to manually move it into the category. I
have read in some of the documentation that this is a
manual process but that seems odd since you would have to
have Admin rights to do this.

I have seen this question posted by others but have not
seen it answered. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Carl,

Instead of creating Categories for each department, try
give access by

"Allow users in this category to view all projects they
manage" for project managers

"Allow users in this category to view all projects to
which they are assigned " for team members

or other option for HR

This way, you might avoid manual permission granting to
categories.

Sriram,

Thanks for the suggestion however I think my requirements
go beyond this. For example, I need all the project
managers and team members in a given department to see all
the projects and be able to the view them even if they do
not manage them or are not assigned to them. The projects
and resources need to be segregated by department. Is
true that you cannot post project direct to a specific
Category even if your not a member of any other Categories.

Carl,

In a way, what you want is easier to setup than other
situations. It is all controlled by the RBS. The
interesting thing about the hierarchy is that a person at
a level can see everyone place at that same level
discription.

Setup your RBS with just one level of reporting, then
define each of your departments at that level.

Then assign all of the project managers and team members
from a department to that department level in the RBS.
Now everyone in that department will be able to see
everything there but not in other departments.

Jim,

After further testing this does not seem to work. Users
cannot see others who are at the same level in the RBS.
Resources at level 1 can see information (Projects &
Resources) at Level 2 but cannot see information of fellow
Level 1 resources.
