Question for Dale Howard - Work Scheduled on Weekend

Hi Dale-

Back in June (6/16/2003) you commented on a problem someone had with work getting spread over weekends. We face this same problem. You asked the person to check to see if he had work scheduled on a weekend in the project plan. We do have work scheduled on the weekend days but we did not do that ourselves - Project did this. You also asked the person to look at the Resource Center view and make sure that days and not weeks were being displayed - but this setting did not affect the fact that our 40 hour time entry got spread over 7 days and not 5.

We have our time period settings set to "resources should report their total hours worked for a week". Based on my description above, can you see what we may be doing wrong? Our goal is to have hours entered weekly by our resources and have that work distributed across their scheduled days (i.e. Mon-Fri)

Thanks-

Open Microsoft Project and then open the master schedule, and apply the
Resource Usage view. Make sure that your level of zoom is set to Weeks over
Days. In the timephased grid (yellow/white timesheet on the right), examine
each resource's task assignments. Do you see Work hours assigned on
weekends for anyone in this View? Let me know what you find.

Also, in the Resource Center view, do you have the time units set to Days or
Weeks? If it is set to Weeks, set it to Days instead, and let me know if
you still see work assigned on weekend days.

Please help me out by sending a message to my e-mail address. With this message, please include several screenshots which will show where in the project plan that you believe Microsoft Project is scheduling work over weekend time periods. Send screenshots of one or more views that confirm this. Also, please tell me what special calendars you are using in the project for the Project Calendar and as task calendars.

I'm not convinced that Microsoft Project IS scheduling work over the weekend, so I'd need to see something from your project to confirm that this is actually happening. Not that I don't believe you, but I need to see what you are seeing. Thanks in advance.
