Quick Access Toolbar and Roaming Profiles

Hello,

at work, we work with roaming profiles. Since 2 weeks, we migrated to
Office 2007. When users customize their Quick Access Toolbar, the
settings are not saved to their profile.
I know that the QAT-files are being saved to the Local Settings
folder, and yes, I know that this folder is not copied to the file
server when a user logs off. Nevertheless, I still can't believe there
isn't a solution for this problem, so:
- I've been looking for registry keys, but these don't seem to exist
for the QAT.
- I've searched within the EXE and DLL-files with ResHacker and
FlexHex, but I haven't found a line that indicates the QAT-path
(maytbe I overlooked something?)
- I've been looking for a way to include the Local Settings
\Application Data\Microsoft\Office directory in the roaming profile,
but I only found an "Exclude" registry setting

I was just wondering: am I forgetting a possible solution to this
problem? Maybe:
- there IS an EXE or DLL-file that should be edited to change the QAT
path?
- there is a way to include the folder with the QAT's?

I'm aware that I could write a script for the Group Policy that copies
the QAT files at logon/logoff, but I don't like that dirty workaround.
It's my very last option...

Thanks in advance for your time!

Hi Christian,

You're correct that the outside .QAT file folder isn't included in roaming profiles. Two methods are to script copying the five
small .QAT (xml) files on logon as you suggested or include the QAT items within the templates by opening a global template and then
using the QAT customization choices, but that can get complex for the users who may not remember to always store the QAT items in
templates or documents.

Redirecting the Applications\... folder can work, but often runs into conflicts with other apps or updates that don't seem to like
it 'moved', so it's side effects can outweigh its benefits.

Hi Bob,

thank you for your command. I understand I have to accept the fact
that changing the location of the QAT-file is not possible.
However, is there a possibility that Microsoft implements a way to
change the location of the QAT in Service Pack 2 of something?

Best regards,

Christian

Hi Christian,

My understanding is that there is a registry/script method to allow roaming QAT support, but that you'll need to contact MS Product
support directly and ask for a solution object for Office 2007 Roaming QAT specifically.

Once you've had a chance to try it let us know here what your final method and result were please :)

Our IT Manageers have turned off Customizing the QAT totally due to raoming
profiles not being supported by MS.

What bad happens if the QAT Customization is turned on in this "roaming
Profiles". Most of us, not all, use on puter all the time.
