Hi

I have an Excel 97 worksheet I have done up and would like sequencial
numbering each time I save to a database. I. E. Each time I save as new in my
database I would like a new number to be generated 1001, 1002 etc. Can
someone help me. I am not that computer literate so If you could explain it
like I'm a 6 year old.

There are several ways to do this.
In Excel Help, lookup:
"About filling in data based on adjacent cells"
"Automatically fill in data based on adjacent cells"

Here's one method:
A1: 1
A2: 2
Select Cell A2. In the lower right corner of A2 you'll see a small black
square that's called a Fill Handle. Select that Fill Handle so your cursor
changes from a fat white cross to a thin black cross. Drag that Fill Handle
down your Quote# column, & the numbers will increment by 1. You can also
double click the Fill Handle, & the cells below will automatically be filled
until it reaches an empty cell in column B.

For a formula based solution:

A1: 1
A2: =A1+1
Copy the formula in A2 down your Quote# column. (you can use the fill
handle)
The resulting formulas will be:
A3: =A2+1
A4 =A3+1
....

or

A1: =ROW(1:1)
Copy this formula in A1 down your Quote# column. (fill handle)
The resulting formulas will be:
A3: =ROW(2:2)
A4 =ROW(3:3)
....

Good luck,
