RE: Callout connector won't attach?

You are doing everything just fine, but Visio Callouts are actually lines
with special endpoints, as opposed to a combination of a shape and a
connector. Also, Visio is responding differently because it assumes you
want to move the whole Callout connector shape.

To compare, click on the Connector Tool and draw a connector line on the
page. It doesn't need to connect to anything yet. Both ends are green, to
show they are not glued.
Then, click on one of the green endpoints and drag it to one of the blue x
(connection points) on a shape. As before, you will see it turn red. Now
you can move the shape, and the connection stretches to stay connected, as
expected.
Now, click on the (still-green) endpoint at the other end of this connector
line. Drag it around and place it somewhere else on the page (you don't
need to connect it). It will stretch from it's last bend point to the new
location - and not have any affect on the still glued other end.

Finally, click on the connector line itself, not on one of the endpoints.
Drag it aside, and notice as you do that it completely disconnects from the
glued shape or shapes. This is just like the behavior you described with
the Callout. Both are called 1-D (line) type shapes, and exhibit the same
behavior.

The good news is that there is a way to accomplish what you want to do.
Look closely at the end of the callout line where the callout text appears.
You should see a green box just like any line ending. In fact, if you
hover over it you will see a tooltip that says "Move Endpoint". Drag that
point, and the callout text (and associated circle, lines, etc.) will
follow along, while the other end remains red and glued to the box.

I'll try to get a blog post up with a picture in the next couple of days.
Hope this helps!

Using Visio 2007. I'm trying to attach a callout to a dataflow "data store"
box. I've used the connector tool and now have a little blue x on the box
and
I can drag the callout connector over and I get a red square, presumably
indicating that the attachment has been made. In fact if I mofe the "data
store" box the attachment remains intact; however if I move the callout box
then the connector disconnects and just follows the callout box. This seems
like pretty unhelpful behavior. What am I doing wrong?
