Re-installimng office 2000

I have upgraded my PC from 98 to XP and my copy of Office
will not run I get the message:-

Windows Installer

The patch package Could not be opened Verify itexists and
can be accessed or contact vendor

Do I delete the original and then try to re-install or
keep pulling my hair out and shouting??
