Re-installing Office XP Standard on a New Computer

N

NALEM, INC.

I own the Office XP Standard Upgrade CD. I installed it on my computer 2
years ago when I upgraded from Office 2000. I no longer have my Office 2000
CD. My old computer died and I just bought a new computer. So - how do I
install Office XP Standard on my new computer? Again, it is the Upgrade disk
- but now I have nothing to upgrade from!

What you need to do is this.

If you have any CD not just Office 2000 but but Office 97, just about any
will work. If you don't have one you will need to borrow one from a friend,
but you don't have to install it. Simply put the upgrade CD in and proceed
with the install. It will then get to a point where it will tell you it
doesn't see a previous version of office. It will then allow you to remove
the upgrade CD and momentarily put the Office 2000 CD in the CD rom. This is
just to prove to MS that you have the software still in hand. Once it sees
this you will remove the CD and put back in the upgrade CD and you can
proceed with the install. You will have to do it this way. There is no way
around it. Be careful not to break and license agreements with MS.Hope this
helps.

You tell the OP to be careful not to break licence agreements when you have
told them to do precisely that! No, "any" will *not* work - the EULA is very
clear on that. If the OP no longer has the *ORIGINAL* (and only the
original) qualifying product then the upgrade licence is null and void - you
see, once you use a product to qualify for an upgrade the QP licence is
amalgamated into the upgrade licence and, essentially, they become one and
the same licence. If you give away/sell the QP you must also give away/sell
the upgrade with it.
