Read-only documents - help! Please..

We have just upgraded to Office-XP on W2K PCs.
Now when I open a read-only document via the intranet browers as before it opens in MS-Word as read-only which is OK.
If I then immediately close this file it asks me if I want to save it.This is a nuisance as nothing has changed. WHY????

Please help

Thanks Beth

I think we may have found the problem, we are using Office-XP and Microsoft in their wisdom changed the rules for displaying the document properties box on a saveas, baciscally if you saveas to save a new document it wont pop-up becuase MS think that modifying an existing document to create a new document do not require this to be displayed even with the option set in Tools/options, so we have customised the 'Saveas' command and I think the problem is with the customisation.
