"read only"

Please help! Im having trouble saving a word doc in MS
Word 2000. All my work is automatically being saved
as "read only" I have tried allsorts and no matter what
this pc does everything is for "Read only" Im trying to
save my current work to CD. Any suggestions anyone?? Many
thanks.

That is the problem - NEVER save a Word document directly to any sort of
media except your hard drive floppy or CD). Save to your hard drive, open
Windows Explorer, then copy the files to your CD.

Do NOT save directly to removable media. Save to the hard drive then copy to
CDR.
Copy back to the hard drive to open it.
Note CDR will always be read-only it is a read-only medium. You will need to
reset the read-only attribute when you copy back to the hard drive in order
to open it.

And note that files copied back to the HD from a CD will always be read-only
because files on a CD (even CD-RW) are by definition read-only.
