Read receipts stay in Outbox

When I get a request for a read receipt and click yes on
the dialogue box it appears to send. But on checking it
is in the outbox. I have to manually send the reply. I
have checked "send messages immediately when connected"in
Options/mail delivery/mail accounts. Is there some where
else or some other option I need to set. any help
appreciated.
