recipient receiving dat attachments

Hi all. I have a user sending excel files to various users through email
using outlook 2003. However recipients receive the files with the original
file name but extension was changed to dat. Recipients are also using outlook
2003. Why is this so? How can i solve this problem? Thks in advance.

Tell your user to stop sending in RTF (Rich-Text Format). Have him use
plain-text or HTML.

Similar problem here sometimes. I have two complications:
* Corporate policy is RTF.
* Sharepoint address lists default to RTF and cannot be changed to
HTML.

Anyway, it's not RTF. It's actually called TNEF: Transport Neutral
Encapsulation Format.
There are tools available on the interwebs to extract the content of
winmail.dat files. GIYF.

If it's Outlook to Outlook that doesn't apply. It's Outlook to NON Outlook
where RTF is the culprit....

I figure it was possible something was in between that mangled the RTF
document.
