recovering licenses

Does the act of UNinstalling a licensed Microsoft software -eg Office -
result in that licesnse automatically being "freed up" so the same software
can be installed on a different machine? Or are there some other steps or
communications with Microsoft necessary??

Thanks,

Hi W.P.,

There is no communication with Microsoft when you uninstall. If it's an OEM license, the software license is to the machine where
it was activated, so its generally not transferable.

If it's a retail license it's to the license holder(person) and after installing on a new machine if the online activation method
doesn't work you can use the telephone activation method to explain to the activation folks.
