Reduce task duration BUT Actual Work reduces as well

Have a scenario in a closed plan where a number of tasks are not set to
100% complete and have durations that carry them well into the future
eg 2049. Both the duration and date are incorrect.

I assumed one could simply update the duration to bring the dates back
in line and then set to 100% complete.

However, when I reduce the duration so the finish date is in 2006 the
Actual Work falls. The Actual Work Protected remains unchanged.

In short what is the simplest way in MS Project, to update the plan to
get end dates that are no later than 2006, while preserving the "Actual
Work" values ?

Thanks

Simon

Hi Simon,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

Filter your project to show only summaries. Check that you have no
resources assigned to summaries and that there are no precedence links
attached. ( See FAQs 48 and 49 at the site below.) Make sure you have the
latest Service Release installed - SR2 for 2003.

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at
this web address: http://project.mvps.org/faqs.htm

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)

Hi Glen,

Thanks for your help. Might be something else as there are no resources
added to the summaries and no precedence links. Seems to be a date that
appears in a couple of plans. it doesn't stop them publishing etc
Suspect it might have something to do with reosurces being deleted that
had actual work against them. Even though the actual work was zeroed
out before deletion.
