Regarding Compact & Repair Database

Please Help

Hello all,

I have a database that saved in a network drive. When I do the Compact and
Repair (C&R) on the database, a copy of database (e.g. db1.mdb) created and
left in the same network folder.

I know that whenever we do the C&R, it creates a temporary database. Then
the temporary database is deleted when it done.

Does anyone know why the temporary database would be left in the folder? Is
it because of the way network drive is set up?

Thanks.

Whom ever does the C&R needs read, write, create, delete and/or modifiy
privileges to the folder holding the database file plus the file itself.
Obviously you don't have delete privs and that's why the file stays there.

The other slight possibility is that something is interrupting the C&R
before it gets finished.

Please Help

Hi Jerry,

Thanks for the information.

The database is saved in a hidden share, and according to my IT, I have full
access to the directory. Whenever I want to access the hidden share, I have
to run a script to take me to the hidden share.

It seems to me that the temp database does not delete every time when I do
the C&R.

Do you still think I do not have delete permission to the hidden share?

Thanks.

I'm still leaning towards you not having all the needed permissions to do a
C&R. Full access and full permissions might be two different things. That you
need to run a script to see the hidden share raises a few flags.

With no one on the database, move a copy of it to your hard drive. C&R it
there and see what happens. If it works, move the copy back to the network
drive.
