Simply put in the Office 2000 CD when the XP installation asks for a
qualifying product - no need to install.

After furious head scratching, rich0057 asked:
| Good question -- I originally installed the XP upgrade just fine but
| recently my hard drive failed and after reinstalling the majority of
| the software my system was besieged with adware that took over MSIE
| and decreased my PC's performance to practically nil. I tried to get
| SP2 for XP to download (along with several spyware programs) thinking
| that may help in fending off the effects of the adware attacks but
| was unable to do so.
|
| I contatcted MS support and after several fruitless emails I received
| a link to get SP2 directly. When I tried to install this version of
| SP2 my PC failed to start at all even though I ran the recommended
| spyware utilities and followed the other instructions. Since MSIE was
| the primary target of the spyware, I have eliminated it from my
| current installation and am using Mozilla's Firefox as an internet
| browser.
|
| The only way I was able to get it to boot was to reinstall Windows XP
| and
| in so doing I lost all links/shortcuts etc. to previously installed
| software (i.e. Office XP Professional).
|
| Based on your response to my question are you suggesting that I
| reinstall my original version of MS Office 2000 Professional and
| then upgrade to XP from there?

|| How did you get it there in the first place? If it's an *upgrade*
