Hi =?Utf-8?B?UGF1bA==?=,
I have a programmer that uses a vb script to create a Office 2003 SP1 word
document on the server and then place the file in another location. The
process worked fine up until I installed Office 2003 SP2. It seems the
problem is with the MSO.DLL. When I replace the MSO.DLL with the SP1 version
it works fine. Is there a way to still the process with the new MSO.DLL?
You don't really provide enough information, but I'm assuming from your
description that the server process is automating Word and that the error is
occurring during this process. (Or do you mean you're getting the problem when
you try to open the document?) Server-side automation of Office products is not
supported by Microsoft; there's a number of articles on the MSDN site that
lists the reasons this doesn't work well.
For the issue with MSO.DLL you should contact MS Support directly. If it turns
out to be a bug in SP2 the cost will be refunded.
May I suggest, however, that your programmer could generate the document with
less effort, and no need to automate the Word application whatsoever? Word 2003
provides an XML file format (WordProcessingML); XML files can be generated
without Word needing to be present. Your programmer will find more information
on the MSDN site at microsoft.com.
