Remote Site Outlook Access

I have three sites that need to be able to get email from our exchange
server, my options are IMAP or POP, OWA is there any other ways..

The reason I ask is because they all have smart phones and with exchange sp
2 which allows direct push I would rather have those phones use active sync
the setup the phones with pop account and then require them to sync for
calendar and contact info because that is saved locally..

any ideas... ?

thanks

Another way is RPC over HTTP. As to the smart phones, what problem are you
having with them? We run Exchange 2003 and setting up smart phones for push
sync is a matter of telling the phone how to find the Exchange Server. I've
been using push sync with my PPC-6700 for over a year now.

I am not having problems with the phones syncing.. what I am trying to avoid
if we use POP or IMAP is the calendar is then saved locally on the users PC
so they have to sync with the cable and the phone.. and you then have to
setup the email for POP rather then activesync..

I would much rather use active sync but can't because they want to sync the
calendar as well.

How much bandwidth does RPC over HTTP take up.. any more or less then pop
and IMAP ?

Well, my phone syncs Mail, Contacts, Calendar, and Tasks with the Exchange
Server. An IMAP account very definitely will NOT download contacts or
anything else from the server and remove it. I see no reason to use POP
whatsoever. RPC over HTTP uses more bandwidth than either POP or IMAP -
you're running full Outlook functionality over HTTP. Another solution is to
use VPN tunnels to the Exchange Server. Again, the calendar DOES sync over
Exchange push.
