REMOVE OFFICE PRO 2007 FROM BASIC INSTALL

C

CAFERS

I purchased office 2007 OEM with my new system. It came with a trial version
of Office Pro and that has now expired. For some reason this has locked up
my picture manager and I can't use it anymore, it just comes up with the
activation wizard and wants me to buy the professional version. Now from
what I have heard, picture manager should come with all office suits
including basic. How on earth can I fix this so that picture manager works
once again? I can’t find away to uninstall the trail version of professional
from my basic install and I have no idea how else to stop the activation
wizard from popping up all the time except to buy it. Any help would be
awesome!

D

DL

Assuming you didnt uninstall trial, prior to installing your OEM version,
uninstall Office and reinstall OEM

C

CAFERS

Thats the thing, I tried to uninstall and reinstall but it installs the pro
trail on its own. There is no option to tell it not to install the trial of
pro and I can't uninstall the trial after the fact.

D

DL

You uninstall Office, as shown in Add/Remove dialogue - the option doesnt
differenciate & should uninstall both

C

CAFERS

I have the disk for basic that was sent to me from Microsoft because OEM does
not come with the disk. As far as I can tell all copies of OEM Basic come
with the Professional trail. When you install from disk it installs the pro
trial for you, does not ask you if you want it or not. There are not two
copies to uninstall, it seems there is one. I look under add/remove programs
and there is nothing there for Pro trail just 2007 Microsoft Office System.
You try to remove it and basic is removed as well...you try to change the
features and remove all the ones included with the Pro trial and the
activation wizard still pops up when you open the picture manager. This is
driving me crazy.

D

DL

You cannot do that you have to uninstall MS Office, period.
How *exactly* is your Office cd entitled?

C

CAFERS

OK, I tried to uninstall everything again and reinstall to see if I missed
something....same poroblem. The CD is called Microsoft Office Basic 2007
with Office Professional 2007 Trail. It says this suite contains Word 2007,
Excel 2007, and Outlook 2007......these all work fine. The problem is with
MS picture manager, I was told it is included in all Office 2007 suites but
it acts as if it is part of the pro suite only. Thanx for your help by the
way, it is greatly appreciated....same with you JoAnn!!

D

DL

Office Basic contains Word, Excell, Outlook
If it contains Picture Manager I believe it will be located under Microsoft
Office>Office Tools
The MS Office site isnt very explicit.
When you install Office Basic, select custom install, or if allready
installed modify the installation, to add components, and check the various
options
You cannot install anything from the trial, as it will be installed as a
trial only.

C

CAFERS

You are right, it is under office tools. I did the custom install like you
suggested and made sure powerpoint, access, publisher, and visio viewer will
not being installed...not sure if it matters about the visio viewer and I
don't see anything else that would be related to the pro suite. The problem
has not gone away.

Hi Cafers,

The product CD you have is the Office 2007 'hybrid'. Office 2007 products are modularized and can be combined, although this may
not be one anyone expected <g>.

As you noted it is a single Office product that contains both
Office 2007 Basic (OEM) edition (licensed) and
Office 2007 Professional Trial
edition components. In Add/Remove Programs in the Windows control panel the hybrid products is usually listed as simply
Microsoft Office 2007
(i.e. no qualifying edition name suffix is listed)

Both parts of the hybrid product, (the trial and the perpetual[licensed] features) may have come preinstalled on a PC, and that is
also the default installation. If you choose custom installation when first installing, or go to the custom installation screen
after installation there should be indicators of which items are 'perpetual license' and which are trial and you should be able to
set the trial features to 'Not available' state or simply let them expire at the end of the ~60 day trial period.

The Office Picture Manager should be part of all of the Office editions, including the hybrid, the Professional Edition and the
Basic-OEM edition.

Yeah, thats part of thje problem too. When I do the custom install there are
no idicators as to what ones are 'perpetual license' and which are trail....I
do know Basic does not come with Access, Powerpoint, and Publisher so I did
not install those, I don't know if there is something else hidden in there
somewhere that I need to uninstall as well. My trail period has expired, it
would be nice if it asked me if I wanted to remove pro but it doesn't...just
keeps popping up the screen to purchase Pro every time I open my picture
manager and then locks it up so I can't use it. Anyone know of a link to
download basic and basic only? I just want to use my picture manager again,
thats all.
