Hello everyone,

Thank you for reading this post.

I'm a student and been writing a short story that have 250 pages on
Microsoft Word 2003 and 2007. I have created a cover page for my story and a
table of content for all the chapters that is in each page. What I noticed
the page number is also on the "Cover page" as page 1 and "TOC" took 13
pages to be created. I need your recomendation how to configure MS Words so
the cover page and toc doesn't have a page number, becuase with the cover
page and toc my short story start on page 14 where it should start on page#1
instead. I hope this makes sense....

Please help.

Thank you in advance for taking the time.

Cy.

Hi CY,

1. Insert a Next Page Section break (See Insert|Break) after your TOC.
2. Access the page footer for the 1st page after the Section break.
3. Using the Header/Footer toolbar:
a) unlink the header & footer from the previous Section
b) select the page number in the header or footer and format it to start from #1
4. Scroll to the previous Section and either delete the page #s or change the numbering style for the page numbers there (eg to
roman numerals).
5. If you're using a 'Page X of Y' numbering format, select the 'Y' number and press Shift-F9. You should see something like
'{NUMPAGES}'. Change 'NUM' to 'SECTION', then press F9 to update the field.
