Removing page numbers from some TOC levels

Frank Nelson

We are working with some agreements and want our table of
contents to have some section headings (ie. TOC1)in the
TOC to appear w/o numbers while having them appear with
the other levels (TOC2-4). Any suggestions? We are using
Heading styles and the Insert | Index tables command.

Hi Frank,

Use the \n switch to remove the numbering associated with levels. You can
only use it with successive heading levels.

i.e. {TOC \o "1-5" \n "1-1"} will produce a five-level table without
numbering the first level, whereas {TOC \o "1-5" \n "2-3"}will not number
levels 2 and 3.

And although you can use it only with successive heading levels, you can
cheat. I've done this when I wanted numbering with, say, TOC 2 but not TOC 1
or TOC 3. The trick is to swap TOC 2 and TOC 3: associate Heading 2 with TOC
3 and Heading 3 with TOC 2 (modifying the format of TOC 2 and TOC 3
accordingly), then use \n 1-2. (Note that quotes around the numbers are not
necessary).
