Rename category

I want to rename a master category.

How?
Do I have to manually get rid of the old category name on
the 450 items its associated with?

Change the View to Categories Ctrl+A to select All > right click and
Categories > uncheck all entries > OK > you would need to do this for every
folder that contains Categorized items.Right click and choose Categories
again > select Master Category List > Reset.
