Rename Menu Item

When I R. Click a menu item in Word 2000 I do not get any options. I want to rename a menu item. I understand this should work. Any ideas why it doesn't

Cathe, first display the Customize dialog box (Tools > Customize), then
proceed with what you were doing. Your changes will take effect when you
close the Customize dialog box.

I realized it's easy to do it once you are there...but when you are learning you expect MS to provide a rename option after a R.Click
