Does anyone know if it is possible to change a media clip from its usual
rectangular shape?

thanks,

How big is the clip? Can it converted to a GIF animated image file?

Movies will always play in a rectangle. You can edit the movie file
directly (using movie editing software) to create a mask effect to make the
unwanted parts blend into the background of the slide. In PowerPoint you
can not place a masking shape on top of the movie, because a movie always
plays on top of everything.

If the clip can be converted into a GIF file, then the GIF can be used as
the fill on whatever shape you want. Just insert the object and use the GIF
as the fill picture.
