Resizing a box from center

K

Khoshravan

I have three boxes, aligned vertically and two connectors, conncting above
three boxes.
When I resize the boxes (increase/decreas the length), one side is fixed
(doesn't move) and only the other side moves. Also connectors reshapes and I
have to move the above and below box again to bring the connector to vertical
shape. Is there any way or a shortcut to resize the box length according to
its middle symetrical axis? in this case there will be no need for extra
movment of boxes after resizing. If there is another solution for this issue,
please let me know.

A picture would be quite helpful here. However, you might try View > Size
and Position window to be able to change the width or height of a shape
without dragging one edge.

Dear Mark
thanks for your comments. I didn't know about view/size/position which is
helpfull. But still position command can not help me. I see that position of
the shape chages as I choose different positions, but from which reference
point does it measure the position.
second question) you wrote that "A picture would be quite helpful here". How
can I send pictures to newsgroup? As an attachment? or only copy/paste? Is it
allowed to do so? I do remember when I was using another platform for viewing
this newsgroup, it was prohibited.

What it sounds like is that when he resizes, the lower left corner
(width=0,height=0) stays in the same location, but all the other points
move. Which is normal for Visio. He would like the normal Pinx, Piny
(width/2,height/2) to remain fixed and the other points to move away. For
example, if you were creating a circular orgchart with it's center pinned at
(5in,5in) that be increasing the size of the circles, the center would still
be pinned at (5in,5in)

Dear John
Yes you explained my suestion more clearly and technically. Is there a
solution for that?

I'm still half asleep, but I do not think there is an easy way to do this.
Once you have finished resizing the shape, you can choose "Align Shapes"
from the Shapes menu and this will recenter the middle shape with the shape
above and below it.

Dear John
Thanks for yor input. I am aware of align command but I haven't used it. I
don't know why?. If this command solves my problem, I will try to make a
habit to use it.

Perhaps try with basic rectangles first to see if that works for you. If I
draw a simple rectangle, I can use the Size & Position window to increase
either the width or the height - where the shape grows about its center.
The last row in the Size & Position window is key here. It defines the pin
position within the shape. You need a pin at the center for width and
height to grow about the center.

As for attachments, I don't know of any restrictions, but I would keep them
as small as possible. Using Outlook Express as a newsreader, there is an
Attach button that will let you include an attachment with the posting.

Dear Mark
Thanks for your comments which helps me to get a better understanding of the
Visio.
Through previous replies in this thread, I came to know Size & Position
window and I have made it visible for all my works and I using it, thanks to
previous replies.
However, changing the pin position box on that window let say from the
center to left center, only changes the place of the recatngle shape and has
no effect upon draging the shape to change its size. Is there anything else I
have to consider for changing the pin box parameter?

I think what you need to do to the shape is to set the shape's LocPinX
to width/2.
Then when typeing in text the shape will resize itself equally at the
left at right.
