Resource Info Available To Date Sets to the Day before Availablle

Hi

One of our users has a problem where when she adds a new person as a
resource and eneters an Available From date that is in the future. MS Project
automatically sets the 'Available To:' date to be the day before the resource
is actually available.
So for example if she enters tomorrows date in the 'Available From:' field
23/06/05 project will enter 22/06/05 in the 'Available To:' field.

I don't understand why Project would, by default, set a nonsense date.

Most of the resources are permanant staff so she is unable to enter an
actual Available To: date so she would like to set as NA.

I have a limited knowledge of the user side of Project so any help would be
greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I cannot duplicate your problem. What version of Microsoft Project are you
using and what level of service pack, if any? Let us know.

Hi Dale

We're uing MS Project 2003. We see the problem on both the release version
and on SP1. I have tried creating a brand new project from scratch and I
still see the problem so nothing to do with the actual project file being
used.

Hi Dale,

We are experiencing exactly the same problem. We are using MS Project 2003
with SP 1.

The issue appears when viewing the "Resource Sheet":
1) Click on a resource to view their "Resource Information" dialog.
2) Select the "General" tab.
3) Click on the "Available From" cell in the "Resource Availability" section
of the tab.
4) Click on the down arrow that appears in the cell and select a date in the
future.
5) Click the "Ok" button.
In the "Resource Sheet" the "Available From" field displays "NA" for the
selected resource while the "Available To" field displays the day before the
day selected. In my case a developer is starting a project on August 1st.
The "Available From" displays July 31st.

The problem is not reproduced in the "Resource Information" dialog. If I
re-check this the date I chose (August 1st) is shown correctly.

Any help greatly appreciated. Regards,

Marcus

Hi Marcus,

However weird it seems, it is perfectly in Project's logic.
In case of contoured availability, Project will always show TODAY's
availability figure inb teh resource sheet (in your case 0%) and the to-from
fields will reflect the limits of this availability.
In this case these are From: NA to: the day before availability.

Sorry, but this is logical.
Mind you, the Resource info can show several from-to lines, the resource
shezet only one; that will be the limit's of today's availability.

Hope this helps.
