Resource Pool & Calendars

D

DaveFusion

I have two MSP plans, a Master & another.
I want to set up the Master as the resource pool, and therefore set plan 2
to use the resources from the Master.
This 'copies' the resources from Plan 2 into the Master - which is what I
want, however Plan 2 is based on a Sunday-Thursday working week ( jewish )
and the Master is standard UK ( Mon - Fri ).

When I pool my resources, the 'Resource Usage' view shows all resources on
the Jewish calendar - can I get the Resource Usage view show multiple
calendars depending on the resource and the calendar allocated to it ?

I can change the calendar for the reource but it doesn't make any difference
to the resource usage view.

Hi DaveFusion,

I am not sure I fully understand your question as when I follow the steps
you outline I see the base calendar for the resources (and the scheduling of
their tasks correctly.) Just to make sure I didn't miss anything, let me
note what I did and you can compare with the steps you have taken.
I created a master project file (ProjectA.mpp) with a custom calendar called
"Master" with Monday through Friday as the working days . I then created
resources in ProjectA.mpp and assigned them the base calendar "Master" in the
resource sheet. I also created tasks and assigned the resources.

I created a sub project (ProjectB.mpp) with a custom calendar called "Sub"
with Sunday through Thursday as working days. I then created resources in
ProjectB.mpp and assigned the resources the base calendar "Sub" in the
resource sheet. I created tasks in the ProjectB.mpp and assigned resources.

I shared the resources from the ProjectA.mpp and ProjectB.mpp. When I view
the resource sheet in ProjectA.mpp , I see the resources from both Project
B.mpp(with their base calendar "Sub") and from ProjectA.mpp (with their base
calendar "Master".

When I view the resource Usage view and add the field [Base Calendar] I see
the correct base calendar for the resource.

I hope this has helped. If I have misunderstood your question, please
re-post and we'll try again.

Julie,
Thanks for that.

I think the problem I've got is that the 'plans' have been produced on
different versions of MSP.

The Jewish one has a 'standard' calendar Sun-Thur, the UK one has standard
Mon-Fri.

When the resources are 'merged' together MSP seems to re-allocated resourses
according to the 'Standard' that is the master.

What I guess I need to do is 'rename' the standard Calendar in one of the
plans - but MSP won't let me do it !!!!

Hi DaveFusion,

You're right you can't rename the standard calendar but you can create a new
calendar (Tools >Change Working Time) create a copy of standard and name the
one in the master "UK". Make sure you assign that calendar to your resources
on the resource sheet. In the other project repeat the process but name the
calendar "Jewish" and again assign your resources that calendar. You should
now be able to tell the difference between the two base calendars.

Hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Hello Dave, Hello Julie,
"I can change the calendar for the reource but it doesn't make any
difference to the resource usage view."
I'm afraid that the graphic pane of the Resource Usage view can't display
more than only one calendar at a time. But you can change this calendar :
Format / Timescale.. / No-working time.

Hi Gérard,

Thanks for the input.

Your reply just reminds me again that two people reading the same post can
see two different questions. ;-)

It never even occured to me that Dave was referring to the display of
non-working time in the Resource Usage view - I just assumed he had added the
Base Calendar field to the table portion of the view.

That's often true, not only in the news group posts ! In the real life
