Resource Pool

I want to roll multiple smaller plans into one master plan, and then resource level from the master plan. I think I have to use one resource pool in the master plan to do this. Any ideas on if this is right, or how to do this??

Thanks,

Jim

Hello Jim,
I guess you don't use Project Server.
All your project files must share the same resource pool. The best way is to
create a specific mpp file for that resource pool. But you can also use the
master plan.

Hi Jim,

Forget about master plans for a moment, you need a resource pool.
Create a new file and save it as "MyPool" (or any name you deem best) and
keeep it open.
Open each small plan, Tools, Resources, Share Resources, Use resources
from... MyPool
Save each small plan and your pool; close the lot.
Re-Open your pool with the third option (... pool and all sharers int one
master...)
There you are, you get a maste for free. Now you cna use leveling from teh
master file or from teh pool, whatever you prefer.

One other thought: determine if you even need a master plan. If you're the
only person updating the plans, you may find it worthwhile to put all tasks
for all plans into one large plan and simply segment groups of related tasks
by inserting a page break at the top of each "plan". If you do that then
you don't even have to create a resource pool because you'll be putting all
your resources into that large plan.
