Resource usage - how to seperate duration and hours?

I'm new to trying to use the resource allocation in Project. I have some
tasks which take a long time (like waiting for materials to arrive). If I
assign a resource to this task it appears to count their time during this
entire period. I can fake it out by reducing the %, but this method will get
complicated on a large plan where multiple resources are used.

Is there a way to devind the duration in time, and then estimate the total
hours a resource will be needed during that time?

Hi New User ,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

I would introduce a lag in the linking to cover the waiting time. Double
click on the task and add a duration in the Lag cell. Alternativerly,
introduce a new task for the delivery time and link its finish to the start
of the doing task.

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)

Hi,

There are several ways to achieve this.

1. When assigning the resource, indicate the %
2. Insert a column "Work" and enter work before assigning the resource
3. When teh resource is aleady assigned, put the task type to fixed duration
and change the work value.
