Resources other than cost

I have the following question.
I need to monitor in MSProject the following resources:
1) covered km's during trips
2) cost of covered km's (that is: covered km's * fuel cost)

I know how to define (2).
But can I, and how, define resource (1), input it, have a progressive
and total count?

taxidimu,

It's a bit of a stretch to do this sort of thing. Project is not really
design as an accounting too and I would recommend that you track this
sort of thing somewhere else (database, spreadsheet, team do the work
for you in SharePoint List, etc.).

I guess if you must do this you could define one of the number fields to
capture; but doing the progressive and total would be a kludge.

If there are more cleaver ways to do this, I can't think of it at the
moment. The more cleaver ways I can think of doing it would be outside
of Project.

Hello everybody,

I'm not sure that works as you are expecting. What I tried:
I created a new resource:
Name : km
Type : Material
Std Rate : 0,5 $

I created a task "Travel", Duration = 4h
As you are driving at 90 km/h, I assigned the material resource "km" in the
Unit cell of the Assign Resource dialog : 90/h.
So Project calculated a "Work" of 360 km and a Cost of 180$
Does it makes sense for you?

Hi,

This works for a customer of mine (they have meters of road to be
controlled, same principle).
Only problem is that you cannot have 0 units if this is the only resource
(which I consider a small bug) - if not this works very fine - you can even
enter km per day etc.
