Sounds like this is something that you should encode as a PDF, (I'm comming
into this thread late so this may have been discussed). My Laptop, has a
PDF print driver, so all I need to do is print the document and it'll be
encoded for me - I love this feature of my laptop. If you can't make a
PDF, then you'd be better off changing the file to a bitmap or something
like that.
Also as an employer, I'd expect the covering letter to start with Dear Sir
(if name not known) or Dear Mr Surname (If known) then when ending the
letter - Either Yours Sincerely (if name not know) or Your Faithfully (Name
known) this is how correct letter writing was taught to me in school. I
believe that the Yours Truley is an american thing, and I'm not sure of it's
correct use. It may seem like a little thing, however, whilst correct
grammer doesn't help you it, bad gramma will definatly count against.

p.s. I use Regards - as this is what is normally used on fax cover sheets
and is less formal, but hey, this ain't no letter ;-)
