Robots: "index,follow"?

T

Tommy Desperate

I made my website with FrontPage 2003 - http://www.hairloss-reversible.com.
My question, though, has to do with the Discus discussion forum I have on my
site.

Located under Description and Keywords for the ten topics on my discussion
forum is the META tag box with four options. I'd like to know which one is
best and for what reason. There is a radio button before each option:

1. No Setting

2. Do not index page ("NOINDEX,NOFOLLOW')

3. Index page and follow links ('INDEX,FOLLOW')

4. Custom: the field here is empty

Of course I know not to use NOINDEX,NO FOLLOW, but how about the other
choices?

Hi,

You don't need to add index, follow - search engines will index and follow on
every page unless told not to. Meta keywords are a waste of time but the
description tag is useful as it supplies the text that shows under your page
title in search results. Make it a compelling description of your page that
contains your target keywords and is about 20-25 words long. So ideally you
want something like this

<title>Your keywords</title>
<meta name="description" content="Your keywords followed by a good reason
for users to click">

It's worth spending time on your description tag, your title and your page
url as they're the best way to get a click. Google monitors search results
for popularity which should lead to higher rankings if you get it right.
