Rotating placeholders

Sarah

I am trying to create a template with the slide titles rotated, however I can
only do this on the slide and not on the master. I am making a template for
other people to use so it needs to be on the master...any ideas?

It rotates fine for me! If you go into the slide master, select the
"Title", placeholder, and on the drawing Toolbar click "Draw", "Rotate",
"Free rotate", you can rotate it 90 degrees, size and move it at will. Not
sure of the problem you are having. Which version of PowerPoint do you
have? What happens when you try rotating it in the Slide Master?

I am using PowerPoint 2002 and have tried a few different presentations. It
never seems to rotate on the title master and only sometimes on the slide
master.

Any ideas?

Sorry, but I can't duplicate the inability to do this. I'll try on my home
office computer this evening on an older version of PowerPoint to see if it
works as well. What you can do is to send me a sample file you are having
problems with to:

pttinc at itexas dot net

and I will take a look this evening.

FWIW, rotation is also greyed out for me here in PPT 2003. It's only greyed
out on the title placeholder on the slide master. The text placeholder on
the slide master will rotate, as will the title placeholder and subtitle
placeholder on the title master.

Very strange. I just did it again starting with my normal blank template
with no placeholders on it. I went into "View", "Master", "Slide master",
clicked "Insert", "New Title Master". I got a blank slide, right-clicked
the slide and selected "Master Layout", clicked the Title and Text
placeholders and it put a Title and Subtitle on my slide (since I was on the
Title Master). Clicked on the Title placeholder, clicked "Draw", "Rotate or
flip", "Free rotate" and it worked like a champ. Maybe it is a part of the
Design you are using. Try deleting the objects, right-clicking and
selecting Master Layout and trying again.

FWIW, I am testing this out on 2003, SP1.

It will.

Nope. This is also on the default blank template.

Tried deleting placeholders from the slide master and then reapplying the
slide master, adding all placeholders back in. Rotate is still greyed out
*on the title placeholder on the slide master* (not on the title master --
the title master stuff all rotates fine).

I'll have to join in...
From new, I can only rotate the date, footer and number placeholders NOT
the title and text placeholders on the slide master.
It's the same on the title master. So at least it's consistent here :)

However, if I insert another slide master and title master I can rotate
all placeholders.

It must be something to do with the way the masters are linked. Cos if
you rotate the title placeholder on a new slide master and then add a
new title master, the title placeholder will be rotated as the slide
master.

So insert two new masters and delete the original ones

Conclusion, it must be one of those undocumented features :)

Maybe I will create a simple one and send it to you to see what it looks
like on your system. I must have a "souped-up" version of 2003 SP-1! HA!

By Jove, I think you've got it! Inserting a new master here does allow me to
rotate everything.

Who'da thunk? (Well, besides Dave?!)

Thanks, Dave! Thought I was losing my mind!

thank you all...it's was all being rather inconsistent. Now I can finish my
template in time for my meeting in the morning!
