Ruler Increments

I need the ruler to measure in 16ths of an inch instead of the default of
8ths. Is this possible? I know I can change the unit of measurement or I can
make it not snap to grid, but that's not what I need to do.

The ruler measures in whatever it can reliably show on the screen - zoom in,
and you will move up to 16ths of an inch instead of 8ths.

Heather, the lack of knowledge doesn't equate to "dumb." Note that at 400%
the it becomes 1/32 of an inch.

While on the subject, can the ruler be changed from fractions to
decimals, i.e., tenths, hundreds of an inch? Margins are in tenths
and hundreds why not the lengths within the work area?

I would suppose that's because traditionally when working in inches, you use
traditional fractions of inches instead of decimal fractions. With the
metric system it's been the other way around.

Publisher 2003 Help returns this:
Set the unit of measure
1.. On the Tools menu, click Options.
2.. In the Options dialog box, click the General tab.
3.. In the Measurement units box, select a unit of measurement.
Note Once you set a unit of measurement, you only need to type a
number when you specify a measurement.

The unit of measurement (inches or metric) that you set this way doesn't get
remembered as a default. The default has to be set up (in Win XP) in the
Control Panel/Regional & Languages.

In Canada, to get Publisher to open in inches, the language has to be set to
English (USA). If it is set to English from any other country, Publisher
will open up in metric.

OT. Trivia. There are two countries in the world where inches are still the
official unit of length. The two countries are ... the USA and Burma (now
Myanmar), and the last I heard was that the USA does not have diplomatic
relations with Myanmar.
