Runtime Error! (Office 2003 Uninstalled/Office XP Prof. installed)

This is a continuation of an earlier post today, but this
new problem may be buried too far for anyone to notice:

Even after uninstalling the trial of Office 2003 that
came with my new laptop, and of course installing the
Office XP Professional Upgrade, I could not get the
Office XP Professional to cooperate when I opened up its
version of Outlook. I received the following error
message:
'Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library: Runtime Error!
abnormal program termination'

Why can't I use my prior Office XP Professional?! I am
loathe to spend an upgrade price for the new Office 2003
Standard for $239 from Microsoft, especially since I
haven't had the Office XP Prof. software that long AND I
just had to buy a new laptop!!! Argh!

Does anyone know how I can get this to work---I've
already spent way too many hours on this. Maybe it IS
worth a trip to Costco at least and spend $210 (+tax) on
the upgrade. <ugh>

Thanks to anyone who can offer advice.

Thanks, Chris.

When I get over today and all the time spent on this
computer, and my rear....(Boy, these things take a long
time!!!), and when I'm getting closer to the end of the
trial for the Office 2003, I will HAVE to try your
recommendation in order to avoid buying the 2003
software. It's not that I don't like the software---I
just have a hole in my wallet right now, and cannot
justify the cost for what I already have (that used to
work well).

Thanks, again.

(I'll try to remember to revisit this again when this
problem is resolved and will post the results, if you
like. I always like what solutions worked for other
people/problems.)

Bye!
