save a file it puts a (2) at the end of the file name

I have a user that has Office XP. When they save an excel file that I send
them via attachment in outlook 2003, the save dialog box shows the filename
as report(2).xls instead of report.xls. Why is it adding the (2) on the end?
How can I remove this option? Also I'm not sure if this is an Excel,
Outlook, or windows issue...

Thanks for any help at all!

What? Why does it decide to add a (2) at the end of the filename when I use
file and save? Not save as.... And why does this happen on only one computer
and not others? Where do I turn it off in windows/excel/outlook?

It probably happens because the file name already exists, either in the
folder you're saving (most likely) or in some MRU list (like "recent
documents", but this is a less likely reason, I guess).

It could even be a hidden file, or a lockfile may exist for that file name.
