"Save" and "Send to OneNote" settings

I synch my three computers with a USB drive, which is where I created all of
my OneNote 2007 notebooks.

What should my "Save" and "Send to OneNote" settings be if I want copy sent
to a new page in the current section by IE or Outlook? OneNote ignores my
"new page in the current section" setting and instead puts the copy in the
Unfiled Notes section.

Thanks.

Shot in the dark: when you plug in the USB stick to each machine, does each
machine assign it the same drive letter? For instance, if the first machine
calles it "Drive E:" do they all use "E:" as the drive letter?

I suggest trying to get Windows to use the same drive letter for the USB
device on each machine. After some not-so-qucik googling (yeah, I said
"google" :) I found this article which gives a method to force the USB
device to have the same drive letter each time:

Note: I don't have a device handy so cannot try this myself.

After that, assuming you changed the drive letter to r:, ON should use it.

There may be problems if you try to send to onenote from a machine without
the memory stick inserted.

John,

Thanks for this, I'll try it.

But my question remains. If I run my files off my USB drive, what should be
the path and file name for my "unfiled notes" section in "Save" in the
options menu and what should be the path and filename for the "send to"
option menu setting.

If you want them to go to the USB device, I'd suggest something like
r:\myfolder\unfilednotes.one and
r:\myfolder\whatevernameyouwantforSendTo.one

FWIW, I tested for two months with a machine using a USB device for unfiled
notes. IT worked well even when the memory stick was not inserted: pages and
changes would get synced the next time I inserted the device. The key (it
seems) is to ensure the same path is used for the names on each machine.
Again, though, I'm guessing at that last supposition, but it seems like a
reasonable place to start. I'm also trying to ensure this works as well, and
will test this config myself over the weekend.

John,

Now we're getting somewhere! Thanks.

I still have an anomaly. On one of my machines, the "send to" command opens
an additional session of OneNote as it sends the copy. How do I stop this
from happening.
