Save as Picture > Distorts Fonts

Hi, Stuart -

To make quick "signs" that I show as a Powerpoint loop on a flat screen, I
use Publisher about half the time. It is quick. The text does come out ,erm,
NOT crisp. To improve the resolution somewhat, I have found that if I make
the whole "sign" really big, and then plug it into any photo program to
resize there and save it as a jpg, it comes out a bit better.

It works better to apply text in the photo program. (I often copy text I
have typed in Publisher and paste it into the photo program text editor --
and do "surgery" on it there!)

Publisher 2002 creates graphics files at your screen resolution (normally
96dpi).
Using JPG compounds this, as artifacts are added that reduces the image
quality. I would suggest using PNG files, as it is lossless (higher quality
than JPG) and more compressed than TIFF or BMP.

If you use a program such as SnagIt (www.techsmith.com), you can "print" the
publication to an image at any resolution.

Ed,

Thanks for this information. I was in need for a program like SnagIt.
Reading through this newsgroup has helped me to learn Publisher.

Thanks again for your comments and help to the posters in this newsgroup.

Hi -

The M. part of that post really wasn't about "paste-as-picture" (which can,
indeed, cause font distortion when the image is re-sized - depending on the
font and the amount of resize.)
