Save Offline

I have three books and cannot locate any sections that
deal with the Save Offline feature. My current
understanding is that is saves the project in the
database with a flag so that the project is not available
via PWA while saved "offline". It does not allow you to
save to your hard drive on your laptop and work at home
and bring it back "On line". Is this correct??

Hi Kevin,

You can use the Microsoft Online help and type "Work Offline" to get
information on how this is performed.

Basically, if all your projects are on Project Server, you do *not* want to
save to an MPP file, work with it and then re-upload it.

Instead, you will want to use the "File->Work Offline" feature. Doing this
will create a special copy of the project schedule on your computer. The
next time you login to MS Project (at your hotel or at home), run MS
Project, select the server you have the saved project in and click the "Work
Offline" feature. When you do a "File->Open", you will see the project you
saved offline. Work with it as you normally would and only do "File->Save"
(do not save to an MPP).

When you go back to the office, connect to the server and choose "Work
Online". Then, open the project and use the "File->Save Online" feature to
put the project back up on the server.

Kevin,

When you save the file as offline , the file gets saved as a project
document . you should be able to get the file from the following path :

C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Microsoft\MS
Project\{Alphanumeric named directory}
eg : say the user name is test
then the path would be like :
C:\Documents and Settings\test\Application Data\Microsoft\MS
Project\{8F4843EF-9617-4302-8FA6-2F0AF53F2DC2}

So if u open the project from the laptop , then it saves the file to the
above location in the laptop.

you can edit the file in the offline mode and later on merge the changes to
the Database when you make it online

Best Regards ,

T J Mathew
