I change the default font in Word 2003 to Arial, but when I open a new
document, it reverts back to Times Roman. How do I make the change stick in
the Normal.dot document? Is this where the problem is?

1. Open Microsoft Word
2. Click the Format menu
3. Select the font, style, and color you wish you use by default
4. Click the Default button
5. Confirm
6. Click OK

I am doing this, would it have something to do with the orginzer under
Templates and Add-ins?

No, just select your desired font, then click on the "Default" button
located at the lower left of the Font window.

Probably not related to the Organizer tool. The purpose of
Organizer is to allow you to copy styles, macros, autotext,
toolbars, etc., from one template to another, and you're not
doing this.

After you change the default font, are you prompted to save
changes to your Normal.dot global template, and do you say yes to
the prompt?

Is Adobe Acrobat 7.0 installed on the computer? If so, the
Acrobat 7.0 Create Adobe PDF toolbar add-in for Word prevents
Word from automatically saving changes to the normal.dot template
.. Choose your preferred font again, set it as the default, and
click "Shift+File | Save All" to force Word to save the
normal.dot template. Alternatively, you can prevent the Adobe
add-in from loading by editing the Windows registry key
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\Word\Addins\PDFMaker.OfficeAddin"
and changing the "LoadBehavior" subkey value from 3 to 0, but
you'll lose the PDF toolbar if you do this.

Yes, I have Adobe Pro 7.0 installed. I will try your workarounds. Thanks

What solved the problem in the end was to rename the Normal.dot file, and let
Word create a new one.

I had the exact same issue ... using the Font preferences and trying to save
the default font through that window did not work. I tried your fix and my
font changes were saved.

Thanks!
