exactly how would I save a report posted in MS Project? I understand that I
need another piece of software but how do I get it from Project to that other
format?

If you have a PDF writer installed on your system, like Adobe Acrobat
(full version, not Reader), you can select the PDF writer from the
File>Print dialog box. You need to do this before you view the report,
because you cannot change the printer from within the report.

YES!!! I'd love to dump the report into Excel. It's in an spreadsheet format
and should dump easily. How do I do that?

Hi Carolcsc,

You may export Project data to Excel through two methods. File>Save As,
select Microsoft Excel as the file type and then use either one of the
existing export maps provided or you may create your own export map to
select specific fields to export. The other option is to view either the
Resource Usage or Task Usage view and use the Analyze Timescaled data in
Excel button on the Analysis toolbar in Project to export timescaled data.

Hope this helps. Please let us know if you have any further questions.

Hi JulieS,
The export timescale data to excel gets the information in excel but
not the format that the "report" feature of Project puts it in. I really just
want the "Report" dumped to excel. Thats for the info, is there anyone that
can help?

Hi Carol,

You're welcome for what assistance I could provide. I know several of the
MVPs who post to this site and created VBA routines to export data and then
format it in Excel and perhaps they'll be able to suggest some ways of
approaching this through VBA. It may be helpful if you can give us the
specific Project report you are trying to export to Excel.

OK, thank-you everyone for your input. What I'm doing is "View -> Report ->
Custom -> "Resource Usage (work)" ->(set filter to group) -> Print Preview."

I love this report and want to dump it to Excel. - Thanks, Carol.

Exactly what I need to do! Microsoft should have a menu option that allows
users to save the view as-is to html, XL, Word etc... without having to
strucggle to export fields - which don't actually map to the Resouce Usage
view at all (monthly columns for example)

Any Project MVP out there tat can help us please?

Glennk,
You're right in that Project won't easily allow built-in reports to be
saved. Perhaps that is an option that will be included in a future
release. Meanwhile, timescaled type views (i.e. Resource and Task Usage
views) can be exported to Excel by using the utility/add-in, "Analyze
timescaled data in Excel", which can be found on the Analysis toolbar.
You will get different results depending on which Usage view the export
is performed from.

Another option if you have some VBA experience (or know someone who
does) is to write a custom VBA macro that will export any Project data
you want and virtually any format to a variety of VBA compliant
applications (e.g. Excel, Word, etc.)

Hope this helps.
